Why become a BatSoc member?
Well for starters, membership makes you part of the bat community, and helps create change – the bigger our membership, the stronger our voice!
Membership
By becoming a member of the Bats and Trees Society of Cairns, you are supporting the protection, rescue, education and conservation of bats and trees in Far North Queensland.
Membership helps us advocate for wildlife, support carers and rescuers, deliver community education, and speak up for bats when they need it most.
Membership period
BatSoc membership runs on a calendar year basis, from 1 January to 31 December.
To make things fair for people who join later in the year:
Anyone who joins from 1 October will receive membership for the remainder of the current year and the full following calendar year.
This means:
- Join in March → membership runs until 31 December
- Join in September → membership runs until 31 December
- Join in October, November or December → membership runs until 31 December of the following year
Memberships are renewed annually.
Why become a member?
As a BatSoc member you:
- Support bat rescue, rehabilitation and conservation
- Advocate for improved legislation for our endangered spectacled flying-fox and other bats
- Help fund education programs and community outreach
- Kickstart projects to help bat conservation
- Strengthen our voice when advocating for bats and their habitat
- Become part of a passionate local conservation community
- Support BatSoc to carry out our legal and administrative obligations as an association
… and if you’re volunteering with BatSoc it’s essential that you are a member – this ensures you are covered by our insurance (It’s only $5 pa for volunteers)

Family – $20 ( Family is 2 adults plus all children under 18 in a household)
Family concession / one member bat carer/volunteer – $15
Family two bat carers/volunteers – $12
Adult – $10
Bat Carer/ volunteer/ or Concession – $5
Student over 16 / Concession – $5
Student under 16 – $2
Renewals and reminders
We will send renewal reminders toward the end of each calendar year so you do not miss out on continuing your membership and support.
