Corporate Sponsorship Appeal – 2026
The Bats and Trees Society of Cairns (BatSoc) is raising $7,000 over the next twelve months to help feed bats in care across Far North Queensland.
Endangered Spectacled Flying-Foxes play a vital role in healthy ecosystems through pollination and seed dispersal. Across Far North Queensland, they are increasingly threatened by habitat loss, extreme heat events, and human impacts. As these pressures grow, so does the urgent need to provide food and care for rescued flying-foxes while they recover and prepare for release.
We are inviting a small number of local and values-aligned businesses to partner with us as Bat Champions through a limited corporate sponsorship program.

Why this appeal matters right now
Each rescue season, orphaned Spectacled Flying-Fox pups are found across the region after losing their mothers to heat stress, habitat destruction, and other human-related causes.
These vulnerable babies are first cared for by dedicated local wildlife carers in their homes, before being transferred to a critical release facility in Kuranda, where they are prepared for a safe return to the wild.
This life-saving work comes with significant costs.
Each season:
- Orphaned bats require months of intensive, hands-on care
- They eat large quantities of fresh fruit every day
- Around $30,000 worth of fruit is needed each season to feed bats in care and at the release facility
At present, these food costs are largely being covered out-of-pocket by volunteer carers.
BatSoc is currently awaiting the outcome of a grant application expected in April, which we hope will help cover some of these ongoing expenses. However, grant funding is never guaranteed, and even when successful, funding does not always arrive in time to meet immediate needs.
This $7,000 appeal is designed to bridge the gap. It will help support carers, cover urgent fruit costs, and ensure rescued bats continue to receive the nutrition and care they need during this critical period.
