Discover the Bats of Cairns Detection Walk

May 10, 2025 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Discover the bats of Cairns and find out why bats are superheroes. The Wet Tropics region is home to half of Australia’s bat species. How many hang out around Cairns?

We will meet at 5.00pm pm at The Figs, Kamerunga. This is an unique opportunity to visit this historic property that is not usually open to the public.
We will introduce you to the big bats and little bats around Cairns , then head off for a bat walk in the grounds of this historic Cairns property looking out for foraging flying-foxes and detecting small echo-locating insectivorous bats using special acoustic bat detectors. Participants will get a chance to use the bat detectors and can sign up to borrow one to discover the bats around where they live as part of our Bats In FNQ Backyards project.
This event is hosted by Bats and Trees Society of Cairns.
